Earth Day Fair Planned for Concord’s Conservation Center April 13

CONCORD-Segways and other alternative fuel vehicles, solar-energy demonstrations, and events for children will be among the highlights of the "Energy EmPowerment" Earth Day Fair planned for Saturday, April 13 at the Conservation Center on Portsmouth Street in Concord.

Sponsored by Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, the New Hampshire Sierra Club, the Governor’s Office of Energy and Community Services (ECS), and Clean Air-Cool Planet, events are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Conservation Center.

Demonstrations of solar electric residential installations and solar hot-water solutions, composting, and biodiesel will be available side-by-side with chances to test drive electric and electric-gas hybrid vehicles, and see the Segway in action.

"The Rock and Roll of Energy" children’s show will be presented by Project Learning Tree, and the New Hampshire Science Center Collaborative will be on hand with their Climate Change Backpack to demonstrate how greenhouse gases and other factors create climate change.

The New Hampshire Sierra Club will also offer a workshop on Global Climate Change.

SPNHF staff will guide visitors through the Conservation Center, including the new French Wing, where they will be able to see energy-efficient and alternative energy applications at work. Along the way, visitors will be able to talk with renewable energy contractors about how to take advantage of residential applications.

Utility representatives will also be on hand to discuss proposed programs for energy-efficiency and alternative-energy rebates.

For more information about the event, call the New Hampshire Sierra Club at 223-8222, the SPNHF at 224-9945, or visit the ECS web site at www.nhecs.org for information.
