Who is eligible for Weatherization?

Eligibility for the Weatherization Assistance Program is based on the following:

  • Number of residents in household;
  • Household income;

Applicants must reside in New Hampshire.  Renters as well as homeowners are eligible for the program. Priority is given to the elderly, disabled residents, and households with young children.

NH's Fuel Assistance and Weatherization Programs prohibit discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, marital or familial status, sexual orientation, and mental or physical disability.

How to Apply for Weatherization Assistance

  • Telephone your local Community Action Agency (CAP) office to set up an appointment or learn more about the application process.

  • All Weatherization participants need to complete a Fuel Assistance/Weatherization application. You do not need to receive Fuel Assistance benefits to participate in the Weatherization Assistance Program.

  • The CAP staff will tell you what information is required to complete your application.

  • To prevent processing delays, be sure to provide all information they request.

  • Follow through with appointments.

  • If you are homebound and unable to visit a CAP office, telephone your local CAP to arrange a home interview or an interview over the phone.

The joint Fuel Assistance/Weatherization application was designed to allow a client who is applying for Fuel Assistance benefits to apply for the Weatherization Assistance Program at the same time. By installing energy-efficiency measures, clients may reduce their dependency on the Fuel Assistance Program, or may have their fuel assistance benefits extend further into the heating season, since Weatherization-served clients have warmer, less drafty, more energy-efficient homes.

The Fuel Assistance/Weatherization application is completed at the time of application for fuel assistance benefits at the CAP outreach site or during a home visit for those clients who are unable to travel to an outreach site. During "non-Fuel Assistance " months (April-October) clients may apply at a CAP outreach site or directly with the CAP Weatherization staff.
